The Indian Space Research Organisation is planning to launch a record 68 satellites in one mission by early next year. Earlier in June, ISRO had set a record in its space programme by successfully launching 20 satellites in a single mission.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) launched the pilot project for Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) with 26 operating units. It will allow payments for everyday utility services such as electricity, water, gas, telephone, and DTH in its first phase. The BBPS is an RBI-mandated system to provide interoperable bill payment services, both online and offline.

Brazil’s first female President Dilma Rousseff was removed from her presidency after the country’s Senate voted 61-20 in favour of her impeachment. Rousseff will be replaced by Vice President Michel Temer for the remaining over two-year term.

Cabinet approves creation of a Project Development Fund to catalyse Indian economic presence in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV). A corpus fund Rs. 500 crore is operated through EXIM Bank.

Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao to take additional charge as Governor of Tamil Nadu as the tenure of Konijeti Rosaiah has ended.

The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given approval to grant of Permanent Residency Status (PRS) to the foreign investors, a move aimed at encouraging foreign investment in India and to promote ‘Make in India’ programme. PRS will be granted for a period of 10 years with multiple entry.

Gujarat has become the first Indian state to distribute 2 crore LED bulbs under UJALA scheme.
